Coercion and the Covid-19 Vaccines

Are you keen to be among the first people to try out one of the new Covid-19 vaccines? Or would you prefer to wait and see how these vaccines affect the ‘early adopters’ before deciding?

Well, you may not be allowed the choice to hang back. We are seeing the beginnings of a campaign that will threaten to make life so difficult for anyone who doesn’t agree to be vaccinated that it amounts to making it compulsory.

The signs are all about us: Quantas (the Australian national airline) warned this week that it expects to allow only passengers who can prove they have been vaccinated onto international flights.

In the USA, the New York State Bar Association passed a resolution urging the state to consider enforcing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination. The group’s task force on COVID-19 said people should be made to have the vaccine, even if they object for “religious, philosophical or personal reasons.”

Meanwhile in England, Matt Hancock (Secretary of State for Health) has refused to rule out making a coronavirus vaccine mandatory, suggesting ministers could make it a requirement if initial take-up is lower than expected. The Health Secretary said the Government was not “proposing” a legal requirement for people to be vaccinated because some would be unable to have a jab due to medical reasons – but he added he has “learnt not to rule things out”.

Professor Julian Savulescu, whom I have had cause to mention here before in connection with his advocacy of eugenics, has described an algorithm for justified mandatory vaccination. He says that penalties or costs could be imposed on people who refuse the vaccine, including withholding of benefits, imposition of fines, provision of community service or loss of freedoms. He also argues that people “should be paid to do the right thing”, eg parents should be paid for getting their children to be immunised or workers should be paid for having the jab. This doesn’t strike me as a very ethically sound proposition from the holder of the Uehiro Chair in Practical Ethics at the University of Oxford.

Fresh from culling 17 million mink, on Tuesday 17 November the Danish government finished considering a new law giving itself extended powers to respond to epidemics. Parts of this law propose that:

  • People infected with dangerous diseases can be forcibly given medical examination, hospitalised, treated and placed in isolation.
  • The Danish Health Authority would be able to define groups of people who must be vaccinated in order to contain and eliminate a dangerous disease.
  • People who refuse the above can – in some situations – be coerced through physical detainment, with police allowed to assist.

While here in the UK, according to an article by Rosalind English on the UK Human Rights Blog

“In July 2020 a group of philosophy and law academics presented written evidence to Parliament proposing that individuals should undergo vaccination as a condition of release from pandemic-related restrictions on liberty, including on movement and association. The authors of the report base this proposal on two “parity arguments”:

a. If Covid-19 ‘lockdown’ measures are compatible with human rights law, then it is arguable that compulsory vaccination is too (lockdown parity argument);
b. If compulsory medical treatment under mental health law for personal and public protection purposes is compatible with human rights law, then it is arguable that compulsory vaccination is too (mental health parity argument).

They contend that there is “an arguable case” for the compatibility of compulsory vaccination with human rights law.”

Well, one can always rely on academics and philosophers to find arguments in support of tyranny; but in England, medical treatment without consent, including vaccination, is prohibited by the criminal law on assault, which could even be construed as grievous bodily harm if the consequences of the treatment are serious.

So, knowing this, it seems likely that the government will be instead relying on pressure exerted by all those organisations with whom we normally interact, such as shops, pubs, restaurants, health centres, airlines, sporting venues, theatres, etc, to act for them by disrupting the lives of anyone who has doubts about being vaccinated.

As John Gapper in the Financial Times of 28/29th November put it in an article headlined ‘Those who are inoculated deserve more freedom’:

“…governments that do not make vaccination compulsory themselves will be tacitly relying on companies and organisations to do it for them. It will force the latter to make unpopular decisions but they should be allowed, even encouraged, to protect customers and employees from harm.”

Gapper speculates that: “Offices and public venues may scan mobile phone apps that link the proof of vaccination or a negative test to digital identities before letting people in. National passports are only needed occasionally for travel, but ‘immunity passports’ could intrude into everyday lives.”

It’s therefore clear that in the near future, if we want to enter shops, drink in a pub or have a meal in a restaurant, attend a sporting event, see a play or concert, go to work in an office, visit a doctor or hospital, travel abroad via ship or plane or even just get on a train or bus, then we will have to have the jab – or normal life cannot be carried on.

This now seems to be deliberate government strategy. Nadhim Zahawi, who on 28th November was appointed by Boris Johnson as Minister for Covid-19 Vaccine Deployment at the Department of Health & Social Care, confirmed in a radio interview on 30th November that it will become virtually impossible to lead a normal life if you don’t have the vaccination. He warned that many businesses were likely to require proof of the jabs once they become available, in the same way they now ask customers to check-in using QR codes. He admitted ministers were looking at so-called ‘immunity passports’ on the NHS Covid-19 app as a way to provide evidence of vaccination. Asked if that meant people who did not have a vaccination would be severely restricted in what they could do, the minister said: ‘I think people have to make a decision.”

Yet despite the threats of punitive action, governments around the world are clearly worried that not many people will want to get vaccinated. Simon Kuper in the FT Magazine reports that between 43 and 50 per cent of the French populace say that they will probably or certainly refuse the vaccine. And here in the UK, a survey by market research company Kantar at the end of November found that 75 per cent of people in the UK were “likely” to accept a jab. But only 42 per cent said they would definitely do so, and “the hesitancy is growing”.

To try to counter such scepticism, the government and the NHS in England are drawing up expensive PR campaigns. According to The Guardian:

NHS bosses plan to enlist celebrities and “influencers” with big social media followings in a major campaign to persuade people to have a Covid vaccine amid fears of low take-up.

Ministers and NHS England are drawing up a list of “very sensible” famous faces in the hope that their advice to get immunised would be widely trusted, the Guardian has learned.

Health chiefs are particularly worried about the number of people who are still undecided, and about vaccine scepticism among NHS staff. “There will be a big national campaign [to drive take-up,” said one source with knowledge of the plans. “NHS England are looking for famous faces, people who are known and loved. It could be celebrities who are very sensible and have done sensible stuff during the pandemic.”

This issue has a personal resonance for me, as I am one of those people who does not want to have the jab. There are many reasons why but here are just a few of them:

  • When I was 21 and wanted to visit the USA, it was mandatory to have a smallpox injection. It was fairly brutal to receive and was far from perfect; I had side effects serious enough to keep me off work for a week and I still have a small round scar from it on my upper arm. On the plus side, smallpox as a disease has now been eliminated around the world.
  • The smallpox vaccine had been around for many years but the new Covid-19 vaccines are being rushed out without the normal routine of tests. Leaving aside the dispiriting spectacle of crony capitalists rushing to make fat profits from vaccination, as well as Judith von Halle’s eminently sensible observation that “Humanity’s way of thinking has become so corrupt that it can no longer even realise how absurd it is that production of medicines is subject to financial interests,” we should note that Big Pharma has been given blanket immunity by health policymakers around the world. In order to get drug manufacturers to invest in research and development, it seems necessary to allow them complete freedom from accountability – so that they can’t be sued when people are hurt by their vaccines. This is a dream come true for drug company executives – billions of dollars are being funnelled their way, prototype vaccines are being pushed past administrative red tape and over licensing hurdles and clinical trials are being fast-tracked – but when one of these vaccines arrives, remember that if anything goes wrong, you will not be able to sue for any side effect, known or unknown.
  • Dozens of new prototypes for vaccines are being trialled and among these are some which use techniques that have never been tried before. I don’t pretend to understand what Messenger RNA is, for example, but Bill Gates, (who has invested $10 billion dollars in global vaccines over the past two decades and has said that he expects to get a 20-fold return on his money), thinks mRNA as being produced by Moderna will be a winner “because it’s much faster to manufacture” and “you essentially turn your body into its own vaccine manufacturing unit.” There is a catch, though, Gates added. “We don’t know for sure yet if RNA is a viable platform for vaccines. Since Covid would be the first RNA vaccine out of the gate, we have to prove both that the platform itself works and that it creates immunity. It’s a bit like building your computer system and your first piece of software at the same time.” 1 Oh dear – anyone who has memories of Bill Gates’ early Microsoft operating systems such as MS-DOS will not be reassured by that analogy.
  • We have no idea for how long these vaccines will provide immunity. I was ill last February with what I suspect was Covid-19 but at that time there was no test I could get hold of to determine it. By the time I was able to get an antigen test kit eight months’ later, I had no antibodies and the test was negative. Anecdotal and speculative, I know, but it made me think that any immunity I might have had after the illness will have lasted no more than six or seven months. Will the vaccine do any better – or will you need to have an injection every six months?
  • I’m worried about what these vaccines might contain and whether we will ever know the full list of ingredients. We do know that they are much more than just a virus in a saline solution with the worst bits of it taken out. They contain ‘adjuvants’ (an adjuvant is a pharmacological or immunological agent that improves the immune response of a vaccine). Adjuvants are added to a vaccine to boost the immune response to produce more antibodies and longer-lasting immunity, thus minimising the dose of antigen needed. That sounds sensible, until you realise that these immune system stimulants include adjuvants like aluminium; preservatives like thimerosal (which contains mercury) and formaldehyde; antibiotics like neomycin and a wide range of ‘excipient’ ingredients (ie that bulk up or stabilise the active ingredient). These excipients can include DNA from whatever cells have been used to amplify the virus in manufacturing production – and in some vaccines these have been cultured from aborted human foetuses, or dogs, monkeys, insects and more. 2
  • It’s known that at least six Covid vaccines, including two leading candidates from Moderna and Oxford University, are manufactured using human embryonic kidney cells (HEK-293 cells) drawn from a baby aborted in 1972 and since multiplied millions of times over. Johnson & Johnson’s Covid vaccine is being developed with their patented Per.C6 cells, retinal cells taken from the eyes of a baby aborted at 18 weeks.3 How do you like the idea of that being injected into your arm?

Vaccines are not yet mandatory in the UK, and the government’s own guidelines on vaccinations say individuals “must be given enough information to enable them to make a decision before they can give consent.” The information I have so far discovered has enabled me to decide that I do not want to give consent. How about you?

I’d say based on the compliance we can clearly see here out in public spaces in the US with the use of masks that also share significant safety and efficacy issues. The speculation that people won’t comply does not look good here and therefore will make it that much more difficult for folks who would not prefer be forcefully injected or coerced into accepting the experimental jab.

I, too, as an American see this tendency in wanting to comply with the vaccine when it comes on. People here want “old normal” back so desperately. As one of those who will be first invited to get the jab because of being ancient, I would rather give my dose to someone else. Even my own daughter asked if it would be possible to defer it to her. Yet, she is also the person who has told me that any forced vaccination is against the U.S. Constitution. And Jeremy has said here that forced vaccination is against the statutes of Criminal Law in England. So, how are the authorities going to make it mandatory? Being ostracized by others who conform, or being inconvenienced at the grocery store, in order to get in, are easily resolvable. One only has to stock up on supplies, and have a freezer in the garage. If convenience meals are in my future, then so be it.

I find the approach to the New Year to be very interesting and challenging from a Michael perspective. I even feel it in my blood as one of the ancient age. It proves the inner alchemy angle that Rudolf Steiner often referred to.

I read this quote about smallpox vaccines from R. Steiner. I don’t know if it is relevant or helps with the dilemma. https://rudolfsteinerquotes.wordpress.com/2020/10/31/rudolf-steiner-on-vaccines/

I found Jeremy’s experience with the smallpox vaccination when he was 21 to be a very important indicator of vaccination effects. To even have to be inoculated for smallpox in order to travel overseas when the disease has been nearly eradicated for many years seems ludicrous. His effects were severe and this is the tell-tale sign of what we can expect.

Rudolf Steiner’s words here on vaccination effects of smallpox seems to indicate that an inner alchemy is already working in a human soul that is possessed of the purifying power of the Cosmic Intelligence of Michael, as well as a keen understanding of the Christ Impulse working in the world, and why the Mystery of Golgotha simply had to take place for salvation to occur.

Yet, RS also took the jab for smallpox when an outbreak took place in Berlin in 1923. He suffered for a time with “sick arm”, like the other ladies, and endeared himself to the womens movement. Ottmar wrote about it on the previous thread.

Jeremy’s smallpox vaccination experience was identical with mine in 1961.
Vaccination certificate needed to get visa for Soviet Union (remember ussr?) So choice was either trip and vaccination, or no trip and no vaccination. Free decision.
My reaction was a high fever and several days of feeling unwell. That was the Vaccinia DOING ITS JOB- awakening an immune response. That is how it WORKS. In the 1940s and 50s smallpox vaccination was pretty routine on BABIES, where the reaction was not so strong but the scars on school mates arms were bigger than mine.
So presumably the covid vaccine will produce a reaction, which will probably vary from person to person.
However, the choice has to remain free. Personally I intend to wait until we see if vaccinated population rush out and buy lots of Microsoft products under the influence of Bill Gates microcomputer chips in the vaccine.

Yes, I suppose the difficulty in distinguishing truths of spiritual science with conspiracy theories actually goes back to the notion of “ahriman’s messengers” getting stuck in the arms of unwitting victims to viral infections. The antigens (antibodies) go right into the bloodstream in order to give the desired effect. I suspect that if you had remained home and not gone to the USSR, you would have never been ill, and remained immune to smallpox. Instead, you chose to go, and got a dose of what it means. And, indeed, Freedom is the issue. Fighting for freedom is the issue when people choose to NOT conform. That makes sense to me as multiple thousands protest the oncoming inevitability.

This seems the real highlight of the whole piece, and a guiding star!
It is also where the whole narrative unravels from.
    Thanks for sharing.

Yet, who stands behind “humanity’s way of thinking”? It is corrupt because of the corrupter. JvH knows why spiritual science exists in the world. The whole piece needs to refer to the science of the spirit as a cultural imperative in our time. Evil is as evil does, i.e., synthetic medicines.

Many years ago I suspected one day it would come to this and now that day has come. It is really hard to overcome the disappointment and concern as to how fast things are unravelling and how passive the world is. Or so it seems. I put my faith and trust in the real world we come from and reside in most of the time – the spirit world and our (invisible to me) helpers. Helps maintain my focus on broadening the picture and accepting the inevitable with hope.

  6. Thanks Jeremy for a well researched post again! Apart from the persons who intentionally reject being vaccinated, there will be millions excluded from all kind of services because they cannot afford or are not in a privileged position to get it.

  7. Vaccination is the consequence of our individual freedom (international flights, working in health care or education). Our freedom is not absolute if we want to protect the vulnerable others (Gapper). And in the end, judges must interpret new health laws: we have separation of powers. In Putin’s authoritarian Russia or Orban’s Hungary, vaccination with a russian-made vaccin is coercive. Let alone vaccins in Xi’s China. The new Covid-19 vaccines are not ‘being rushed out without the normal routine of tests’. This kind of fear-evoking scepticism should be countered by our governments and public health organisations.

Ton, you have to remember what Rudolf Steiner said here about what invasive inoculations would mean in terms of bringing in “ahriman’s messengers”. He even more than implies that these antibodies, or even antigens in our more current language, means bringing in the elementary spirits of birth and death into the normal lifespan from birth. Each has its own particular purpose, in terms of birth, and then death. To bring them together in a normal life span is the work of a genius. So, who is the genius?

Ton you mention the use of cell cultures from aborted babies in virology.
Viruses are not alive , they can only multiply by taking over a host cell and subsequently destroying it. To grow human viruses, human cells are necessary. Foetal cells are the ones with the strongest ‘life force’ and so amenable to culture. Otherwise, you are stuck with cancer cells.
My ex was a virologist and I recall driving with her to collect abortions from a nearby hospital. They would phone the lab when they had ‘suitable material’ available. That was over 50 years ago- I do not recall any moral qualms about the business. OK it was not me processing ‘the material’ – not my department. I was ‘Bacteria and Fungi’ and they were happy with non-living substrates. We weren’t very ‘WOKE’ in those days.
Recently I came across discussions about the morality of accepting a vaccine created with the use of human embryonic cells from abortions. This question has been very seriously considered by the Vatican. This was before Covid-19.

wiki discerns: “The cells were obtained from a single, apparently healthy, spontaneously or, under Dutch law, legally aborted fetus …”

Hi Ton, it is interesting that Moderna and Oxford are the other two candidates for early approval in the vaccination for covid. Yet, while they claim over 94% success rate with their testers in apparently staving off the effects of the virus through vaccination, it is also noteworthy that two weeks ago, Pfizer came forth with a 90% effective vaccine for covid. Yet, they admitted that certain side effects would occur, like nausea and fatigue and chills as consequences of taking the vaccine according to their target audience.

Moderna and Oxford leave out the side effects in their respective assessments, as if they have a better solution. They don’t. In other words, expect to get dosed with Covid when you take the shot. It’s a mixed bag of symptoms. Pfizer at least has the honesty to tell about it. The others are cleverly telling about their own higher efficiency rates without the side effects. Christ-all-mighty!

Indeed, this is it exactly. Lead the unwitting human being to its own demise. This is what we have working in the world today. You know why? You were blessed to attend a Rudolf Steiner school in the 1950’s and learned a great deal, and especially for your own further progress as an adult. Today, in 2020, people are about as far away from spiritual science as you can get. Here in America, it is utterly “non compes mentis “, which means 98% of the people haven’t even started to understand.

Yet, with us anthropoppers we speak the same language. My brother used to remind me in our conversations, “you’re speaking to the choir, Steve”. The choir knows; it’s the other folks who don’t. That’s the challenging part for me, and I know that I have come up short. I think even RS felt that he came up short. His followers have all died. What do we think we constitute? A new beginning seems very far away, except in sentiment.

Let me add the following: we can also imagine that following the “intentions” behind the massive worldwide campaign based on a genoma modified vaccine like the new m-RNA ones against the fake pandemia called “Covid 19”, the actual goal of “you know who” and his puppets (the Big Four: Finance PHARMA, Guns, Techno) could be as follows. To manipulate genetic bloodlines in order to “produce” bodies totally unfit to develope the goals and the qualities of the coming souls in the nexrt decades,Bodies unfit to be lived by I’ AM’s powers… Ahriman” in the flesh” (according to Mr Boardman’s insights as carried on in the link) is tryng to perform this too…I believe.

Even more remarkable are the goals of the transhumanist movement, which Jeremy has highlighted in a couple of previous articles. They seek the Man-God working in the world, rather than the god-man which we would normally ascribe to. Of course, Rudolf Steiner saw this as an inevitability in the offing. Today, it is part of the android mechanism which means super-techno, with a palm reader which can alert to the current virus. Beware that a contact tracer might call you in order to test for covid. These are the implications. Boardman’s indications are right here for further illumination.

Hi Hans, we haven’t talked for some time now but I always think of you and your endeavours in Thailand. While I think that many should reject getting vaccinated for Covid-19, even if it is offered and easily available, it pains me even more when I think of how so-called, “third-world countries”, remain so, even with the stalwart efforts of yourself in bringing your school into the light of the modern age. This school has all the earmarks of success for bringing Thailand, especially, into what I suspect you behold for it as a nation, ref. https://www.schoolforwellbeing.org/

Yet, you acknowledge something very important here. How millions still cannot receive even basic services. And why is that? The United Nations was formed in 1945 in order to bring the world into equality, and yet it still has not happened to the extent that it should. Why not? Could it be related to a certain entity that exists to wreak havoc on humanity with suffering and terror? Even the privileged suffer with doubt and fear these days. So, what do you think it is? Even Jeremy refused to say the name until recently, but now he has the courage to say it, and leave Lucifer and Ahriman to their own bit of business in working for the cause. It is the anti-Christ, who is a very real entity in attempting to hold humanity back. Sorath, if you will.

The United Nations, like the League of Nations as its predecessor, came out of the United States. Yet, even Woodrow Wilson, who formed the League of Nations, refused to be a part of it. He saw the League of Nations as his own creation, and needing to be controlled by the United States without its own official membership. This same concept passed over into the United Nations of 1945. So, the whole idea of a peaceful world regulated by the United Nations is a facade. Why? Because the government of the United States is behind it. And it can be shown (as indicated many times on this blog) that the east to west migration of Sorath across North Africa and over the Rock of Gibraltar into Europe eventually crossed the ‘pond’ into the New World, where it resides today. Thus, America has the power to make the world into the most abundant enterprise ever seen on earth.

Yet, it fails all, even its own people because Sorath resides in the west. The people in America are the one’s who truly want to see truth and peace. We can’t believe the history that we have seen. Just look at the last blog entry. If Spiritual Science was more of the cultural imperative it is, and embraced by now in 2020, we would see more of a charge against the evil that is now on our doorstep.

Wing Neo Nazi elements. Thus there are Waldorf School teachers, Environmentalists, Anti vaxxers of various persuasions- and there are several, people from various ‘esoteric’ movements being used for cover by violent hooligan elements who then attack police supervisors and tar everyone with the same brush.
It is now difficult to have a Peaceful Demonstration despite the original organisers being genuine.

When the huge demonstrations in Berlin occurred earlier this summer, they were almost totally ignored in the larger & more core western media outlets in the english speaking world (television, in the main – BBC etc). Where they were mentioned, online and print (which are secondary in importance in terms of reach & perception of trustworthiness) I think they gave a figure of ten thousand in attendance, when participants clearly numbered in the hundreds of thousands (if not the 1.3 million that was claimed by some supporters). Then, when the events had caused too much ripples to be easily swept away, we were told that they were ‘far-right’ events.
The far-right elements were there, certainly – but of the participants who spoke when questioned on this most suggested – and given the political make-up of most of continental europe this is true of every political event excepting the core-left kinds – that there were of course some AFD and so on, but they constituted less than a percent of attendees. Which is certainly the impression given by the footage – families, elderly, etc.

The ‘fascist’ allegations were pre-prepared, irregardless of the degree of involvement of those with those leanings in the marches.
And If there has been an increase of far-right influence since, it can to some extent be attributed to the fact that that particular condition of mind is both predictable and ‘programmable’ – easy to provoke through media and political stimuli that give the desired results.
        The diabolic knows its own.
This is an ongoing phenomenon that many have recognised – the corralling of trends or movements antithetical to government or related alignments into the ‘far-right’ field. It is done by misreporting, denying outlets to or suppressing certain voices while amplifying others under false pretexts. (It’s similar to what occurs when peaceful movements are suppressed while terrorists are stimulated and fueled)

I think this proves that any call for mandatory, or even voluntary vaccination, will be heavily opposed the whole world over. Suppression of the true feelings of people will do no good because they were there, protesting then, and are here now ready to do it again. Social media needs to be blown up. It sounds like a terrorist threat, but there are insidiously evil forces that want to escalate the progress from the fifth cultural epoch right into the seventh, and bring on the “War of All Against All” as early as possible. That way, the 6th cultural epoch, i.e., the Age of Christ in His Own Time”, will be averted, or bypassed. I used to hear a lot about this concern of bypassing the Spirit-Self Age. I think Prokofieff was concerned about it in his writings. Spiritual Science seems to be in a very weak position today in order to be the dynamic force that Rudolf Steiner had in mind for the end of the century. It pains me to criticize the GAS, but what happened? I know that Rudolf Steiner died 95 years ago, which means the loss of leadership based on insight, but there was definitely a way to effectively proceed based on leadership. By now, though, it is what it is. Steiner always saw the importance of inclusivity across the board for the continued growth and development of the anthroposophical movement. Some still live with those original incentives.

It is an awful medium – as I think others have said here recently on the subsequent post – the vices of traditional media have been greatly amplified. But, as I tried to say in an earlier comment, there is also the ‘democratic’ element to it allowing voices, opinions and facts that have been ignored or misrepresented elsewhere to get through to others.
And there have been positive exchanges alongside the (greatly appreciated) pieces by Jeremy here.
It is the ‘living inside’ the medium that I think represents the greatest danger, it has become not just a tool or information resource but something that has altered cognitive function, a permanent scale over the eyes. Kind of an ‘anti-‘ form of the latent organs described by Rudolf Steiner.

To be a Public Health authority just might make one a first responder, which means getting the jab in order to respond further. If I was in that position, which I’m not, I would do it. Rudolf Steiner apparently got the jab in April 1924 when a smallpox outbreak occurred in Berlin. It left him with a weakened right arm for some time. I go with the idea that fear is a very real threat, and that if people want to get vaccinated without coercion than they should do so in all freedom. Peace prevails until something becomes mandatory.

I agree with this idea of “fear-evoking skepticism”, but what does it mean when she appends to, ‘how it disempowers us’, with these final words, “as deeply as what it warns us against”. What does that mean? I also would invite a discussion on it, but I am not holding my breath. sardisian01@gmail.com

    • This skepticism warns us against sleep-walking and soul sleep, which are poisonous gifts from the asuric powers (GA 107), the third evil force (GA 130), third fall (GA 346) or third evil Hel (GA 121).

see Steiner: “… it is really quite terrible how the Satanic [here: Asuric] powers used the vanities of men at the beginning of the world war in order to create a tremendous turmoil in a few days — after there had been a very deep state of sleep — which put people in a great uproar, so that they’re still not sure what really happened.” GA0346/19240922 (cf. Hi Ton,

I want to make a point of something that you often bring into relief here with regard to the elemental forces working against humanity out of the very technology that exists today. You mention GA 194 lecture of 12/14/19, but I would like to cite the lecture of 11/29/19, in which Steiner speaks again about what caused WWI. Remember how vexed he was about how the 30-40 European leaders had ‘lost their minds’ in the lead-up to WWI? I suppose Helmuth von Moltke, the younger, and leader of the General Staff, was the one most losing his mind. But, here in 1919, some three years after the death of von Moltke, who just might have been influential in the offerings given in GA 173/174, Steiner speaks about certain sub-human beings working toward the future Jupiter man. He says they possess powers that arise out of elemental will forces, which can be manipulated for cause when Sorath has the advantage :

“I emphasize once more: it is an extremely serious truth that certain beings make themselves felt which exist in the environment of mankind. They make themselves felt more and more since the middle of the fifteenth century. These beings possess chiefly the impulse of a force which is very similar to the human force of will, that force of will of which I told you yesterday that it exists in the deeper strata of the human consciousness. These invisible beings are related to that element of which ordinary consciousness thus remains unconscious today; but they already make themselves very strongly felt in the development of present-day humanity.

For the person who takes spiritual research truly seriously this is a problem of great magnitude. I was confronted with this problem especially strongly — at the time I spoke to a number of our friends about it in one or another form — I was confronted with this problem in a demanding fashion, as it were, when, in the year 1914, this war catastrophe broke in upon us. One had to ask oneself: How did an event overtake European mankind which it is impossible to gauge as to its causes in the way that is customary in regard to previous historical events? The one who knows that not more than thirty or forty people participated in Europe in the decisive events of the year 1914, and who also knows the soul condition in which most of these people were, will be confronted by this significant problem. For most of these people, as strange as it may sound today, my dear friends, most of these people had a dulled, obscured state of consciousness. During the last few years much has occurred that was caused by a dulled human consciousness. In the decisive places of the year 1914 we see everywhere that the most important decisions of the end of July and the beginning of August were reached with an obscured consciousness; and this has continued on right into our present day. This is a problem, terrifying in its nature. If we investigate it spiritual-scientifically, then we find that these obscured consciousnesses were the gateways through which precisely these will-beings were able to take possession of the consciousness of these men; they took possession of the obscured, veiled consciousness of these human beings and acted with their consciousness. And these beings who thus took possession, who are still sub-human beings, what kind of beings are they? We have to pose this question very seriously: What kind of beings are they?” GA 194, lecture 5.

Indeed, Steve, in those two lectures Steiner (1919) talked about WW I and the ahrimanic powers in general, and only in the last lecture he differentiated Ahriman from the abyss of the Azuric powers. And only in GA 346 (1924) he discerned second and third fall in Revelation, the Beast from the Earth and the Beast from the Abyss (cf. Rev. 9:1, 11:7 and 20:3, Michael holding the chain).

I already stressed the overvalued status of the ahrimanic ‘Sorat’ with anthroposophical authors (von Halle, Boardman, Prokofieff, Tradowsky, Meyer, Masson), for which I still cannot find a ground in Steiners lectures.

cf. “In certain occult teachings the hosts of Ahriman are also called the Asuras. These are of course, the evil Asuras who at a certain time fell away from the evolutionary path of the Asuras who endowed man with personality. It has already been indicated that these are spiritual Beings who detached themselves from the evolution of the earth before the separation of the sun.” GA0107/19090101

Read GA 200, which is now available online. Steiner makes completely clear where the powers of diminished consciousness and the future Jupiter-man dwell. America. He indicates here again how a kind of neo-Istar mystery exists; a synthetic mystery which vexed Gilgamish back in the day when truth and honesty was sought for. Gilgamish would eventually go to the Burgenland in order to find and prove it, i.e., that immortality really exists.

So, what we have working here is the power to effect diminished consciousness from a distance. America infects Europe. These lectures also describe how threefolding across the board gets weakened out of the powers inherent in the west.

America could have very easily ended WWI in 1915 after the sinking of the Lusitania, but it waited three more years, Why? Likely because it wanted to see a three-year trench war of attrition take place instead. Now, that is Sorath, and then by bringing in the pan-flu epidemic in 1918, you can see the bigger picture of this evil beast. I wonder what von Halle, Boardman, Prokofieff, Tradowsky, Meyer, Masson, would say about that rationale. All honors to Sergei, who has crossed the line, God bless.

I argue, that ‘evil beast’ is the asuric force, and ‘Sorat’ is equivalent to the ahrimanic power. In 1909 Steiner had suggested ‘a bodily incarnation for Sorat’ (GA 104a), in 1919 a bodily incarnation for Ahriman (GA 191/193/195). All these book authors skipped such reasoning.

But, you see, that’s not the real issue today. In today’s world, evil forces are trying to tear the world apart. Steiner has depicted Ahriman as the son of Sorath, the sixfold Asuras, and so it would seem they are a tandem, and especially after Michael cast down the lot of ahrimanic spirits in 1879. Who would they first identify with in this descent to earth? Sorath, of course, who was approaching the last hundred years of his second incarnation, i.e., 1332-1998. Remember what Soloviev experienced in 1898, when he was returning to Russia after his second sojourn in the desert outside Cairo. He saw the anti-Christ on the horizon as he returned, and this was his fourth conversation with the Divine Sophia. She said that he should expose it, even as it would bring his end. He did. The so-called, Spanish-American War took place in 1898, and look at what America gained from that little affair. As well, look at all the authors who have called it the first “false flag” engagement of America in foreign relations. Worth considering?

‘Steiner has depicted Ahriman as the son of Sorath, the sixfold Asuras’

Sure, ‘son of’ the Asuras, in the sense of a weaker second and a stronger third force. But Steiner never linked the sun demon Sorat and the saturnal Asuras, as far as I can see. In the Priest’s Apocalypse (GA 346), he described Sorat in lecture 8 and Satan in lecture 11. Steiner didn’t mystify the being Sorat by confounding him with the Beast from the Abyss, the anti-Father.

In Revelation Ch. 20, two-horned Sorat is depicted as the ‘false prophet’, apart from the chained Satan (Rev. 20:10): “And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown.”

  12. Hi Jeremy,
It is interesting that despite all the bad press that Russia receives from the (mostly) western media that the Covid vaccine there is voluntary. The only people for whom it is compulsory are the military. This is not unusual as i know from my military days that we were vaccinated regularly on a direct order!!

I would say: “voluntary” (for healthcare personnel and administrative officials). Putin’s Russia is a managed democracy, and Sputnik V is besides a rather effective vaccine an international propaganda tool, too.

  14. Hello Steve and all,
Thank you for (re-)engaging me on personal terms in the important dialogue opened by this thought-provoking post by Jeremy’s. What I meant to say, Steve, is that our “health passports” in-the-making will split the world into two parts: those who have access to all kind of services and those who will be excluded, whether they are objectors by will or deprived by circumstances. (Maybe a re-newed global solidarity could arise from this?). The exclusion goes much further than blockades to convenience like shopping at the local grocer (no need to hoard food in your fridge, Steve, you just order – organic – home delivery). Exclusion will include access to (good) jobs, education, mobility, health service etc .
Indeed, that is nothing new, but it drives the situation into even more radical extremes.
Relative failure of the UN is part of that complexity. However, whether we should blame that on total USA control and Sorath (and/or Ahriman) who settled in the proximity of its headquarters in New York or in Los Angelos, for me is only a fascinating narrative and another strong challenge for further research. Your reference to the lecture of Terry Boardman was very helpful from that perspective. The precision of his predictions are very sharpening to the mind.
So, I have some arguments to counter your statements (sorry if I misunderstand them).
In the first place we definitively live in a multi-polar world now and the USA is no longer the ultimate determinant of the UN and our future. The UN may be dominantly embedded in USA power structures, but its origin goes back to the First Hague Peace Conference in 1899. Which did not escape the attention of Rudolf Steiner. This early beginning is still alive in institutions like the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the International Court of Justice and more recently the International Criminal Court. Also Geneva, regional and specialist UN bodies all over the world (including here in Bangkok) play their roles. China is eating quickly into the gaps left by recent USA’s self-obsessed diplomacy.
So, yes, UN reform is urgently needed driven by positive scenarios. This should be understood as an invitation to anthroposophical visionaries. But, like Rudolf Steiner at certain periods, anthropoppers tend to over-emphasize the esoteric at the cost of exoteric realism, as if they are still in the age of Theosophy.
Let’s see whether the prediction of Terry Boardman, based on Steiner’s indications, that Steiner will by now have reincarnated in 2002 (two years later than Ahriman who is supposed to be 20 years old at this moment) will come true. And whether it will be helpful if he would be recognised as such; or not?
All the stories about devilish entities, (arch-)angels, and even our deep learning from the lives of real spiritual leaders, like Steiner himself, (and their incarnations and postulated re-incarnations) may indeed be feeding our wisdom and spiritual might, but these stories and interpretations may also distract us from our most important mission (in the words of Terry Boardman): the unification of “humanity’s global Ego with the Etheric Christ”.
But even the life story of the human being Christ as well as the spiritual personality, and all the narratives built upon that may, in a way, hinder the understanding and our openness, empathy, love, for the universal being of Mother Earth in her cosmic context. Simple like that. Accessible (if not culturally appropriated) always, for everyone and equally for all living entities (the “community of life”). That would not only work to prevent future pandemics (this is just the first of a series, and not the last over centuries), and to strengthen our immunity for existing “killer viruses” caused by human-made climate emergency. Simple love for Mother Earth would equip us to cultivate our freedom and responsibilities, our brother- and sisterhood, in the decades and centuries to come where Big Brother is not a new phenomenon which catches us by surprise and leaves us the illusion that we still can escape, but “the new normal”.
This is not meant to be simplification driven by skepcis, but positive action-research towards comprehension of, and unification with the essential, as that is what we need in times of crisis.

Hi Hans, I started to write a response to this last night but the internet trolls deleted it right out from me because it was getting too wordy. Sometimes things happen for the best because tonight I feel inclined differently. There is something about your work and where you have gone that clings to me for some reason. We have talked much about your espousal of what can be called, “active-engaged Buddhism”. Previous talks are so much wasted effort for the simple reason that one cannot do a search of previous comments on a wordpress blog. Now, back in the day, Yahoo gave very ample databases to those who had forums for discussion; files, photos, comments, and a search engine second to none. It was possible to retrieve even the smallest byte of data in order to prove a kind of akashic record exists that can be brought back to life. Thus, whole conversations could be restored in a moment, while today in the wordpress world one has to simply ask if someone might remember something said previously, and without the supporting documentation.

So, my first question is: You do know that we have had this discussion before, don’t you? Of course, it lacked the covid implications we have today, but it only takes time to create radical changes to the environment. It is good to draw attention to Terry Boardman’s assessment of what really matters, but it was also discussed here. Yes, the Hague Peace Conferences of 1899 and 1907 were designed to broker peace in the world, and yet they came from someone who was utterly unsuited to the cause, i.e., Czar Nicholas II. Two years before the first, in 1897, President Faure of France, spent a great deal of French francs in order to effect the Franco-Russian Alliance, which meant bypassing Germany in order to make a pact with Russia for protection. In other words, France and Germany were already enemies by now, and by effecting an alliance with France, Russia showed with the 1899 Hague Peace Conference that real peace was an empty shell. Same goes for 1907, which came two years after the disaster of the 1905 revolution in Russia. Here, Czar Nicholas had his own people being gunned down in the streets of Moscow. So, Steiner is being very kind when he refers to Nicholas II here in this pivotally important lecture:

      https://wn.rsarchive.org/Lectures/ChrLuc_index.html

Some things simply have to be said in order to continue, or even start over, when it comes to lapsed conversations. I suspect you have been busy, though, and likely very busy.

    Hi Jeremy

“one can always rely on academics and philosophers to find arguments in support of tyranny; but in England, medical treatment without consent, including vaccination, is prohibited by the criminal law on assault, which could even be construed as grievous bodily harm if the consequences of the treatment are serious.
So, knowing this, it seems likely that the government will be instead relying on pressure exerted by all those organisations with whom we normally interact, such as shops, pubs, restaurants, health centres, airlines, sporting venues, theatres, etc, to act for them by disrupting the lives of anyone who has doubts about being vaccinated.”
    – I don’t know if you looked at the link I put towards the end of the comments on your previous post, – the freshfileds lecture by Lord Sumption given at Cambridge University last October ( “Government by decree – Covid-19 & the Constitution https://www.privatelaw.law.cam.ac.uk/events/CambridgeFreshfieldsLecture ) but it dealt with the undermining of the basis of government that has occurred with the covid-related legislation, and is really worth looking at.
In some countries, it is not only illegal to force medical treatment on a person, but it is also illeal to use coercive measures such as denying sefvices, benefits, education, etc. to do so. But when the basis of government is cast off and torn up, how secure is this ?

    & with regard to
“As John Gapper in the Financial Times of 28/29th November put it in an article headlined ‘Those who are inoculated deserve more freedom.’ ”
    – their argument here is utterly redundant, and they are clearly lying.

not to mention that as you point out it has been admitted elsewhere that they are playing aguessing game with regards to the duration of the vaccine’s efficacy, and last niht we had a rep. from the UK govt. let slip that candidates will be required not only to take the two doses from pfizer but ‘probably most of the other ones [vaccines]’ also.

Alongside the things you mention, there was the matter of the swine flu vaccine – after it was withdrawn in other countries it was still administered in the Republic of Ireland; there have been several recent cases where the courts have ound in favour of/compensation given to recipients of that vaccine whomdeveloped narcolepsy as a result.
I’m sure there is relevance to the nature of this condition and some of what Steiner taught about the nature of the human being that would suggest there were additional ‘intended results’, let’s say, from this particular treatment.

    I think it’s heads-out-of-the-sand time for everyone.

I think in large part that social media is the great propaganda tool being used very efficiently here all over the world, which proves that we are all networked together by now in this day and age; and that is the good thing. Yet, has vaccine rationale really changed from earlier times? These latest reports from the scientists, like Oxford, would indicate that more highly sophisticated means now exist to extract the necessary agent of the virus in order to combine it with a human protein for a safe antidote. Yet, we all are aware that vaccination carries the threat of getting dosed with the disease, whether it is Covid-19, or Influenza. Most of us have been healthy and unaffected by the plague so far, which means that our immune systems are doing their job. So, why risk getting the shot if it is going to bring on even a low version of covid? Immunity can increase even by being exposed to the virus on a daily basis.

I admit, as Jeremy has as well, and likely a few others here also, that I experienced covid-like symptoms last November, and they lasted for some 12 weeks until I began to recover. My recovery began at the very point in which Covid was first being acknowledged as a health threat, and a test for it was just beginning. So, the issue of immunity to the disease also exists because of prior exposure before the vaccines.

People will simply do as they must. A Covid-19 vaccination has already a long line reserved for it simply because of the lockdown scenario. So, its efficacy has been duly prepared in advance. Now, here’s the question: Is an exceedingly clever mind behind it all? Steiner once warned in his final lecture course to the Priests that Sorath by 1998 would have risen to such a level of intelligence that it would be incomprehensible to us normal knaves.

        Hi Steve,

Yes, the social media phenomenon has become, as others have pointed out, a form of prosthetic cognition with a reach (- both in breadth across the social surface and pinpoint deep into people individually) that we could not have imagined even twenty years ago, yet alone during our lives in the last century – and the difference between this year and last seems almost as great as that between the 20th & 21st c’s.
It’s dangerous in any direction politically, or with regard to one’s stance in the matter at hand – caution and a step back is called for when approaching things considered conspiracies, etc.
Yet the clichéd distrust in our politicians & media is well founded. For instance, among hundreds of similar things any of us will certainly have come across, we have this individual here https://mobile.twitter.com/FatEmperor/status/1331222517781065730
who is not always dependable when putting forth his position against the lockdowns & the seriousness of the virus has been exaggerated,
but in the video above he has identified an individual – Professor Luke O’Neil, Professor of Biochemistry Trinity College & unofficial spokesperson for the government with regard to pandemic measures (and pharmaceutical industry beneficiary) – addressing a class of high-school age kids encouraging them to take a vaccine for an illness they are at almost zero risk of, & describing a future reality for them consisting of wearing “unremoveable wristbands” to prove their vaccine status in order to participate in ordinary life.

All other doubts and uncertainties about what is happening aside, the ‘cure’ is being pushed beyond the need for it.

All possibilities are on the table, things we would have thought absurd or so distant in likelihood as to be of only supernatural possibiliy are right upon us, today; we need to know this as well as keeping alert against dishonesty coming from any ‘camp’ or direction.

Current example of social media: 700 epidemiologists interviewed for their opinions on when it will be safe, and what needs to take place in order to make it happen. Some think it will still take years, and some think we will never see the old form of normal ever again. The summer plan of 2021 seems weak at best.

“Most scientists say around 70% of the population will need to be immune for the United States to reach herd immunity, when the virus slows down significantly or stops. Herd immunity is crucial, they say, for people to safely resume many parts of life, and the fastest and safest way to achieve it is through vaccination. Moncef Slaoui, who is leading the government’s Operation Warp Speed vaccine development program, said this week that vaccines may roll out quickly enough for the United States to reach herd immunity by early summer. But scientists do not yet know if vaccinated people could still spread the virus.”

  17. In this series of posts there are very interesting contributions about our immediate reactions to the present COVID-19 pandemic; and analytic thinking and exchanges on the deeper causes, societal implications and future perspectives.
One parallel was seen between the question whether World War(s) I (and II) could have been prevented or was inevitable? Seen in the perspective of the COVID-19 crisis as a possible trigger to possibly much worse than what we experience until now.
And what is the “real” spiritual battle behind this corona crisis. Who are the major actors? In 1914: England, Russia, Germany, France, Turkey, USA, materialism and Ahriman? In 2020: China, USA, England, Sweden, Sorath, Ahriman, WHO, BigPharma. the “reset” promoted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Anti-Christ? The Archangel Michael, re-incarnation of the Christ in the “etheric”? Or emerging global awareness of humanity’s interdependence with Mother Earth, the universal “community of life” (Earth Charter, 2000)?
Steve Hale makes us aware of a serious shift in appreciation by Rudolf Steiner of arguably the first attempts towards a global binding legal framework among sovereign states to moderate and ultimately abolish industrialized warfare and violence. By now also including the question of “ecocide’?
What does such a change of mind tell us about the way we should value Rudolf Steiner’s indications for our efforts to understand the corona crisis, its causes, implications and possible cures?
In his lecture cycle in Berlin, October 1905 – May 1906 (GA 54) Rudolf Steiner praises the Russian Czar Nicholas II and the Austrian Peace activist Bertha von Suttner (the first female Nobel Peace Prize laureate) who co-initiated the First Hague Peace Conference in 1899 (and the second in 1907). Steiner omits to mention the essential role of USA industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie for the realisation of its outcome. Nor did he ever pay attention to the pragmatic social architecture behind the conference and its results shaped by Dutch lawyer Tobias Asser who later also received the Nobel Peace Prize. The conferences can be seen as first steps, via Geneva, to the establishment of the United Nations in New York in 1945..
However in his lecture tour 6 – 8 May 1915, to Vienna, Prague and Linz, so during World War I and while the First Goetheanum was in full construction, Steiner says:
“The launching of the Peace conferences by the Russian Czar must therefore be considered the biggest farce in the world history; it is the most abominable.” Also, by now Steiner mocked the peace movement guided by Bertha von Suttner (GA 174b). In the same time he heigthened the expectations/claims of the effectivity of spiritual science.
Steiner never mentioned that in the same year, 1915, a massive, independent, Peace conference had been organised in The Hague by women from all over the world, including women from the warring countries. Bertha von Suttner had died in 1914, but Rosa Mayreder, Steiners close Austrian friend in the period that he wrote the ‘Philosophy of Freedom’ was a leading organiser together with Jane Addams (USA, Nobel Peace Prize 1931), Elisabeth Rotten, England, and Aletta Jacobs, the Netherlands. Later Elisabeth Vreede left the building site in Dornach temporarily to join Elisabeth Rotten’s care for English prisoners of war in Berlin.
During the creative process towards the “Philosophy of Freedom” intimate discussions with Rosa Mayreder led to Steiner’s conclusion that Mayreder’s path was too exoteric for him and that he wanted to focus fully on esoteric development.
The question, which also now can be applied to the numerous COVID-19 dilemma’s, is whether “the esoteric”, spiritual science, is more effective in preventing/solving war and crisis than exoteric activism?
What are the lessons we could learn from the failed top-down political threefolding campaign shortly after World War I; and from the ultimate destruction of the First Goetheanum by fire, even though it had survived the war thanks to its position in “neutral” Switzerland?
Can anthroposophy be effective vis-a-vis de COVID-19 crisis (+ climate emergency; + economic downturn; + painful inequality; + technocratic authoritarianism and + social/cultural divisions) if we are not better able to integrate the esoteric with the exoteric and shape the movement beyond the anthroposophic “silo”?

    • Hello Hans,

I think the questions you ask in your last three paragraphs are very important for anthroposophy today. I will be trying to write some kind of answers to those questions in my next blog post.

      Best wishes,

        Hi Jeremy,

Please do write on these issues because I perceive that Hans thinks, and maybe even feels and wills, that we anthropops are largely just sitting on our hands (or is it haunches), rather than actually doing something to bring about a better world situation. This can be the perception when we look at what comes at us from the Goetheanum newsletters of these last two months:
        https://goetheanum.co/en/newsletters/Goetheanum-December-2020
        https://goetheanum.co/en/newsletters/Goetheanum-november-2020

In my experience over many years, personal appeals to the Goetheanum generally get ignored. I had one short window of opportunity when I was able to converse with Michaela Glockler (through her personal secretary) back in 2000, at the time of the general membership meeting at Easter. She was inviting everyone left and right to come to Dornach that year, and I found her appeal so warm and appealing. Yet, in the aftermath, by September, it was all dropped. I had drawn up a kind of prospectus for the Michaelmas conference, which I was encouraged to do, and then couldn’t find anyone to hear it. Her window of opportunity had been closed by this time.

So, the issue is this: How do we simple folk get to communicate with the Dornach authorities as if we have a stake in all of this matter of moving the anthroposophical movement forward. I really hope that some of these folks in Dornach tune into this blog. That, in itself, would be an encouraging sign.

Hans, has anybody said anything against “exoteric activism” here? And Steiner had very nice things to say about Carnegie here in this lecture from 28 January 1909, in the short aftermath of the Hague Conference of 1907:
    https://wn.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA254/English/RSP1973/19151016p01.html

Rudolf Steiner made definite moves in the shift from 1918 to 1919 to begin those practical endeavors we see still attempting to work today, particularly the Threefolding of the Social Organism. His course on the Fundamental Social Issues of Our Time, GA 186, was the clarion call for what would begin in earnest right from the outset of 1919, and led by the threefolding initiative. Yet, as can be seen, the resistance against such a movement was strong, and still is. So, Steiner was compelled to shift back into the esoteric domain for the good of his movement.

Now, in the period of the first two Hague Conferences, 1899 & 1907, Steiner saw many things differently and felt his mission was entirely esoteric. In a tripartite biographical sketch written for Eduard Schure in September 1907, he indicates in part II that he is to fulfill the mission of Christian Rosenkreutz for the 20th century, ref. GA 262, Barr Document. And this is what he was doing until the shocking events that overtook and caused World War I. This is why his focus changed and why he became critical of what he had previously applauded. His esoteric faculty had now to take on the big picture of the whole European karma that had led up to the war. Underlying motivations and symptoms had to come forth for scrutiny. This is why the Apocalypse of St. John had to undergo significant revision from 1908 to 1924. It is because in the sixteen year interval, the war had changed everything from an original rosy perception to one of somber gray clouds.

This blog, in its small way has actually done a great deal in promoting activism, especially in relation to Threefolding. I think his name is Michael Spence; he wrote a three-part article on Threefolding just for this blog about three or four years ago. It received much attention, and it was all about what to do. It *is* all about ‘what to do’, which is about waking up. Anybody who really studies anthroposophy is an activist by necessity. It goes with the territory. And much can be done by providing mental impulses out of an inner alchemy that is very real. Knowledge is Power, and the world needs knowledge on the scale of cosmic dimensions. This will prove to be the great resolver.

Jeremy, I look forward to your next blog post. Anthroposophists, mostly as I have experienced them through workshops and group sessions, are not the seers and balm to my soul I’ve yearned for. I have some understanding of why that is so and would like to know if others struggle with the same and what can be done about it. I think we need to get moving on a serious Vision Quest. It’s getting late. But maybe this has always been a solitary task. .

Hi Kathy, I think one of the things that will prove to be important in this discussion is how we have all received the materials of spiritual science. I, myself, have never participated in a workshop or any other group session than these forums and blogs. Maybe you sat down with folks and were somehow disappointed for some reason. Personally, I find every invite into discussion to be a godsend. I love your anecdotal accounts, and have told you so. As well, I love when Hans writes here about his existential angst working in Thailand, with all the UNO support, and yet, a “third world country” to this very day. It doesn’t have to be this way.

America has the means to bring the world into a state of abundance, but it needs a leader with that idea in mind. It has always been possible, but without the science of the spirit, it remains incomplete due to conflicting values based on materialism, with its rather global emphasis on economy and world domination. This should ring a note with those that see a better way.

Steve, I, too, feel what you refer to as Hans’ existential angst. But I think trying to find hope in leaders to do the job that needs doing – or any hope for correction in the 3D world, is a trap – designed to keep us utterly dependent on the material world. What I find to be shockingly missing in Anthroposophists is any concern with, desire to, move through the stages of initiation.

I agree. For me, initiation is everything. I’m not bothered by materialism because it is a useful support system in the life between birth and death. Now, here is where Steiner briefly outlines the path of sense-free thinking into the pure thought world where the brain is put aside. We are left with only the contents of spiritual science to mull over, and it becomes a kind of “connect-the-dots” work. Very convincing for those that need convincing, like me.

And the other side of sense-free thinking would be thought-free sensing. See Bounderies of Natural Science, GA 322.

Also here, GA 13, chapter 5, part 3. Steiner wanted to accord to the pure thinkers with no content of knowledge, but just pure sensing in the thought world that surrounds us:

“The path that leads to sense-free thinking by way of the communications of spiritual science is thoroughly reliable and sure. There is however another that is even more sure, and above all more exact; at the same time, it is for many people also more difficult. The path in question is set forth in my books The Theory of Knowledge implicit in Goethe’s World-Conception and The Philosophy of Spiritual Activity. These books tell of what man’s thinking can achieve when directed, not to impressions that come from the outer world of the physical senses, but solely upon itself. When this is so, we have within us no longer the kind of thinking that concerns itself merely with memories of the things of sense; we have instead pure thinking which is like a being that has life within itself. In the above-mentioned books you will find nothing at all that is derived from communications of spiritual science. They testify to the fact that pure thinking, working within itself alone, can throw light on the great questions of life — questions concerning the universe and man. The books thus occupy a significant intermediate position between knowledge of the sense world and knowledge of the spiritual world. What they offer is what thinking can attain, when it rises above sense-observation, yet still holds back from entering upon spiritual, supersensible research. One who wholeheartedly pursues the train of thought indicated in these books is already in the spiritual world; only it makes itself known to him as a thought-world. Whoever feels ready to enter upon this intermediate path of development will be taking a safe and sure road, and it will leave him a feeling in regard to the higher world that will bear rich fruit through all time to come.”

Some people subscribe to the strict account of pure thinking without content of knowledge. In other words, they meditate into the void. A friend gave me an account of one of these, and then I was able to give two more. I am sure that there are many others who would prefer to do the same kind of business today. Yet, without consciousness of the spirit working into the temporal, which gives us spiritual science, it is really a kind of wasted effort for these, don’t you think?

So, is this Platonist, or Aristotelian? Or is it possible to be both, to experience both – we could call it the Christ Principle if we wanted to use Steiner’s words: https://theconversation.com/fragments-of-energy-not-waves-or-particles-may-be-the-fundamental-building-blocks-of-the-universe-1

And Steve, if I’m meditating “into the void”, how is it that I get answers to questions and issues that arise during meditation, even though I have no understanding of how that happens? A thought will come up in meditation and then vanish, but a day, or days later, that question or issue is clarified. How does that happen if I’m just in a void after I’ve left the sense-world as I meditate? It certainly wasn’t through any thought-control on my part, nor do I understand where it came from.

My only distinction is that there are two ways to go about engaging in sense-free thinking. The one you practice by going into the “void”, which obviously is not a waste of time, and my inference was not to undermine this practice, but to reveal the names of a few people that engage this practice, is to achieve the insights of pure thinking without the object of anthroposophy in mind. The other method is the one that Rudolf Steiner often mentioned, which concerns taking the communications of spiritual science without prejudice, and then applying the pure thought world in considering these findings. It has the same value as your insights provide for you. It is a further proof that this method truly works.

Kathy – in your short post you manage to touch on two subjects I too have experienced. First subject is the need for leadership; the need for someone who has gone before, to then turn their focus back to assist those coming behind them. Second subject is the void in Anthroposophy for such concern for others. This isn’t meant to say that that person, or persons, don’t exist – just that I haven’t experienced them yet. Meeting you and Steve through this blog reminds me there are caring, like-minded individuals in Anthroposophical studies – it’s a matter of that Ideal, that guiding star to follow. Was RS the only one capable of such inspiration?

Hi Jeremy, I know that you are gearing up for your next great blog post, and this is owing to your recent remark here:

    Coercion and the Covid-19 Vaccines

Now, in recently reviewing Rudolf Steiner’s last address here, he seems to simply want to make it clear that the future of the movement is held in the hands of those who comprise 4 x 12 in presenting themselves to the leadership of the Goetheanum. I’ll leave it to his own words, and what it might mean. He spoke thus:

“If, in the near future, in four times twelve human beings, the Michael Thought becomes fully alive — four times twelve human beings, that is, who are recognised not by themselves but by the Leadership of the Goetheanum in Dornach — if in four times twelve such human beings, leaders arise having the mood of soul that belongs to the Michael festival, then we can look up to the light that through the Michael stream and the Michael activity will be shed abroad in the future among mankind.”

And so, what do you think that means? Steiner goes on to say the following:

“And so we see in Novalis a radiant and splendid forerunner of that Michael stream which is now to lead you all, my dear friends, while you live; and then, after you have gone through the gate of death, you will find in the spiritual super-sensible worlds all those others — among them also the being of whom I have been speaking to you today — all those with whom you are”.
    GA 238, 28 September 1924.

I just want to help the cause in this day and age. Does it make sense? Does it come across as logical ?

Maverick: I, too, can’t believe that Steiner was the only one capable of such inspiration – it would belie everything he taught and all he has meant in my life. The problem lies hidden in what Steve has highlighted – that Steiner said/believed/hoped – that if as few as 48 people were fully inspired by Michael and “RECOGNIZED…BY THE LEADERSHIP OF THE GOETHEANUM, Anthroposophy would realize its potential in the world. But I’ve come to think that was a lost cause from day one (which I think was intimated by the destruction of the first Goetheanum). I think our “leadership'” acts suspiciously like old Rome who stepped up to tell the early Christian communities what they were allowed to believe, think, read. They made the early belief that we have immortal spirits punishable by hellfire and went on to water down, or flat out deny many other teachings – such as reincarnation. Anthroposophy, as I’ve experienced it in the few people I know (mostly Waldorf teachers and medical people) goes out of its way to avoid what I consider to be Steiner’s central teaching: that we are here to develop the Consciousness Soul and should be moving through the stages of initiation every day.

Steve, I don’t feel hope when I read what you have introduced. From the early days, when I went to Anthroposophical workshops, I experienced, firsthand, the patriarchy at work and I knew I could not trust the organization/leadership and its influence on Steiner’s students. I would raise questions and thoughts in group settings and the responses were kind but largely dismissive or placating. The teachings and discussions felt dry and empty to me – and made it harder for me to reconnect with what was so life-giving in Steiner’s teachings. But later, in the bathroom, women would come and go and, invariably, several would say something like “I really like what you said”. So where was Steiner or Micheal in those groups? And who was deciding what Steiner’s message really conveys? Steve, I know you sincerely mean it when you say you want to “help the cause in this day and age” – but I find often that the writings and thoughts that motivate you and give you hope just feel like a weight to me – and I want to run for the Ladies Room. Smile, my friend!

Sorry. I admit not knowing much about the patriarchy ruling the GAS and its various branches and group work. I just write my words of hope and encouragement based on Steiner’s own indications, and see what might stick on the wall. I do often wonder what you want to see take place. I have yet to see a clear indication, just like with this. Where are you coming from, and where are you going in terms of spiritual science? I know that I make myself clear, and don’t expect it to be to everyone’s liking. I plod along, and that is my method, especially with “the silence”. It actually helps keep the smile on my face, while you seem to tend to grouse, but I am not picking on you. I want Jeremy to post this as a kind gesture.

Being more scholarly, I figure you probably know that in native American lore the grouse is the performer of the Sacred Spiral Dance. It whirls circles around others and raises everyone into higher worlds. Thanks!

ps – I am not really a scholar, but do believe that the work that RS accomplished represents a force still to be reckoned with. The Cosmic Intelligence of Michael that RS has gifted to be sent back up, completes the original sacrifice. Sorry I couldn’t have been one of those you experienced in the workshops. It might have come out better for you, although I am still of the male distinction. Entering and exiting the pure thought world makes all the difference. If the answers are there, then there is nothing to ‘grouse’ about other than possibly a therapeutic remedy. But, the CI is the remedy!!
Do you see the implications of such a dilemma?

Hi Kathy. Interesting how these blog posts work. I wouldn’t have seen your comment above if I hadn’t checked out Steve’s reply to it – I didn’t get notified of your comment, but did of Steve’s. So if I hadn’t followed the thread back I would have missed your comment, which is a very good thought. I don’t even know if you’ll see this reply, since the same thing’s probably happening for you – unless you follow a thread back, you might not receive notifications.

I like your comparison of Anthroposophical leadership to old Rome. I’m very upset with that church denomination. They’ve done so much damage to human societies with their condemnation of reincarnation, and their defense of patriarchy. They know the truth but choose to cover it up in the interests of holding power over people. I’m also upset with orthodox Jews, because they’ve known for eons of the gender balance between male and female but likewise have chosen to cover it up (for more on this subject, see this year’s book release “The Name”, by Rabbi Mark Sameth). Don’t get me going on patriarchy; it’s done so much harm, still is toxic today.

I wonder if the emphasis on Michael hasn’t been used for harm by the patriarchy? I greatly appreciate all that Michael has done, and is doing for us. It just seems as though he’s the “knight in shining armor”, that gets all the glory and praise, when Sophia is doing just as much and more, but receives little mention. Sophia, to my understanding, is doing the daily ministrations that mean so much to our advancement, with so little credit. Sound familiar? We see this manifested in our world today, with females bearing the brunt of the work while the male receives the commendations. I lean more towards the Christian Community these days. Even though their origins lie with the very church denomination I’m upset with, they seem to have the gender balance issue working in their favor. Some of their branches appear to have a healthy balance of understanding of the Steiner materials as well.

Also interesting is your mention of Anthroposophy’s avoidance of the development of the Consciousness Soul, and moving through initiation stages. I’m seeing the same thing happen with another organization I’m involved with, the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.). It’s work originally was given by Michael, through Cayce, in a different format than the Steiner work, but still for the development of the Consciousness Soul, especially as related to the Christ Consciousness, which Steiner mostly calls the Christ Principle. The A.R.E., while not having the same gender issues, is still moving away from the development of Christ Consciousness into more popular (with new agers) areas such as mediumship, near-death experiences, and sense-based “spiritual experiences”.

I really wish you’d email me @ lddbonham@gmail.com, as I don’t like to put energy into a comment I don’t even know if you’ll see. I also don’t know if Jeremy minds that his blog is fostering these other discussions than their original intent. Haven’t heard from him – maybe I’ve missed those notifications also (sigh).

    • There was a report from the National Audit Office mentioned in today’s Daily Mail:

“Vaccinating Britain will come at a cost of £12billion with the NHS needing 46,000 new staff – but half of us still won’t have received the jab by the end of 2021, a report has revealed.

The National Audit Office, which monitors government spending, said the plans assumed that just 25million will receive jabs if enough become available.

This would suffice for the priority groups – the over-50s, frontline health workers, those in care homes and people with underlying health conditions.

But it would leave younger adults waiting until 2022.

Its report also warned that the taxpayer could be liable to pay legal costs – on top of the £11.7bn cost of developing, buying and manufacturing the vaccine – should anything go wrong.”

“…half of us will not have received the jab by the end of 2021”

There are increasing references to restrictive measures being maintained ‘until we see which vaccines work on which sections of the population’ (so it’s not the pretended panacea but something between bait & a goad, leading to more of the same…),
& references that the vaccinated can still potentially spread the virus, etc.
& though I think Matt Hancock’s allegation that ‘asymptomatic spreaders are our most major concern’ has been widely declared to be untrue, it looks as if it all amounts to the same thing with regard to the continuation of lockdwn measures.

I think it amounts to this –
        (a) While the seriousness of the virus has been exagerrated, it is real and very dangerous for many;
        (b) the measures taken to control the spread are in many particulars excessive, often ineffectual, sometimes irrational,
        & are an affront to human nature, civil liberty, democracy and the the basis of consensual governance; & their continuance is totally unacceptable in even the medium term without a guarantee that they will end;
& (c) it looks, I think, certain that the situation is being used as a pretext for the deliberate alteration of our societies with a view to permanence or the beginning of a path of engineered change – what this, despite guesses, is, we don’t know.
And I hope this isn’t true.

Hi Luke, I like your tenacity with staying on this conversation, and having the courage of your convictions. Especially with regard to your (c) consideration, I would like to make a comment. I know that it is very controversial, but this board has had prior discussions on this remark you make:

“… it looks, I think, certain that the situation is being used as a pretext for the deliberate alteration of our societies with a view to permanence or the beginning of a path of engineered change – what this, despite guesses, is, we don’t know. And I hope this isn’t true.”

Jeremy has had two prior essays on this idea of “engineered change”. I will post their entries, and then follow with an excerpt from a lecture by RS in which he expounds about what this could mean.

          I have seen the future…

          Don’t be evil

“When we speak of Christ we are speaking of the cosmic Being, the God Who became man. What, then, would constitute the antitype? The antitype would be the man who has become god. This would not, however, be an absolutely good god but, just as Christ descended into the world of men and took death upon Himself, that is, assumed a human form in order to be able to participate in human destiny, so we are led to the opposite pole — to the man who, having freed himself from death, having liberated himself from human bodily conditions, within earthly conditions becomes a god. Such a man would then cease to be mortal. He would wander about the Earth — not, of course, under the same conditions as an ordinary mortal human being who must pass from birth to death, and from death to a new birth. A man who had thus become a god would exist on Earth as a man who had unlawfully become god-like. As the Christ is a God Who has lawfully become man, we must seek His antitype in the man who has become god, who, mortal no longer, has unlawfully assumed the god-nature. Just as in the Christian tradition we have in Christ Jesus the God Who has become man in righteousness, so are we also directed to Ahasueris, the man who has become god in unrighteousness, who has laid aside the mortality of human nature. We have the polar antithesis of Christ Jesus in Ahasueris. That is the deeper foundation, the deeper significance of the Ahasueris legend. This legend narrates something that is a reality, speaking of a man who wanders over the Earth. The figure of Ahasueris is actually there, wandering over the Earth from people to people. This Ahasueris figure exists — the man who has unlawfully become god.”

            Hi Steve.
I think there are two things here – the desire of some for some kind of transcendence in the material world, achieving powers beyond what most of us think as right. This is mostly fantasy, or has been until recent times when several prominent figures talk of integrating the human with the machine or achieving ‘immortal’ lives incommensurate with the proper laws of birth, growth and death to make way for the new, etc.
There seems to be another impetus, too – to reduce the general mass of humanity to something beneath what it rightly is. As mere guesses, I’d say it involves removing the pillars of our humaniy – freedom & personal sovereignty, human dignity, the faith that man is not a mere animal but at his & her core a spirtual being.
This second is more what I was referring to, but as the first – which might be related to Steiner’s antitype of God-made-Man – seems to require subordination of others to achieve its position (it might be man-made-as-god, but it is beneath Man…), it would seem to require the great body of humanity to become something less than human – and in a ‘sub-‘ relation to itself if it is to maintain the deceit of its ‘godhood’ – , so perhaps the two go hand-in-hand.
In terms of what is immediately happening, though, I am pointing to the appalling possibiliy that the unnatural emergency measures – which run counter to everthing that western civilisation despite its faults has achieved – might be becoming fixed or permanent.
If this is the case, it is not a far stretch to imagine that such a profound alteration in our societies could be the preliminary steps of something worse.
            Thanks for your response.

(postscript: I’ve just read the first of the links to Jeremy’s piece you gave, from July ’17, – from today’s vantage much of it seems acutely prescient)

Very interesting everything you said, and all the comments. For an antroposopher that had studied Steiner should be no doubt that all this vax stuff is a way to manioulate subtle bodies in humans, as it was well explained also by prokofiev in his book about evil and how to evetcome it. So spiritual Work as weel as action and will are for me the answer. Time for action has come. Even if there is a lot of propaganda and other things, sooner or later we will have from words and explanations to decisions. And it is coming soon. Blessings brothers. And most of all, truth.

Well Norway’s 26 deaths aren’t looking good, even though pfizer says its nothing alarming and to be expected. (Thanks Norway, for being transparent and honest – something other countries can only aspire to). But Dolores has a consistent scientific world picture, worth studying. https://www.facebook.com/ifpdolorescahill/videos/3078987865661670

Well, Pfizer said a couple of months ago, just before the roll out of its vaccine, to expect serious side effects. Now, here in America, the aim is to get 240 million people vaccinated as soon as possible. This is according to the Biden plan. So far, only some 2.4 million have been vaccinated, and not one word about side effects. My thinking is that to talk about side effects would be a discouragement to get the vaccine. To leave out the issue of side effects, and possible death, is the matter of propaganda. In America, so far, the few seem to be okay, but with side effects that are not being discussed. In time, as this all plays out, we will know. POTUS Biden has an aggressive plan to see an entire nation vaccinated in short order.

I personally received a medical advisory saying that since I am 70 years old, my shot is waiting for me to schedule an appointment to receive. Now, how fast is that? 🙂

      • If you decide to have the vaccine and have a choice about which one, then go for the Oxford/AstraZeneca one rather than the Pfizer or the Moderna. These last two are mRNA vaccines, which in the opinion of Professor Dolores Cahill (a molecular biologist and virologist) have the potential to make subsequent infections from different mutant strains much worse. Ahh so… the vaccines carry the strain of the mutant corona virus. Now, my understanding is that either one will have side effects; is that true? Jeremy, have you had your shot as a public health provider? I know how resistant you are about it. I also would like to wait until those younger than me take the shots, and then I can assess how they came out. Does that make sense? It is what it is. We all have to decide about what is going to become a worldwide vaccination program. Remember Steiner’s warnings about inoculating the elementary spirits of birth and death from GA 177, lecture four I believe, 6 October 1917.

We really need to be aware of the dangers, and especially because 1998 was just 23 years ago. Look at how much has transpired since then. War on Terror is the big one, as well as techno-materialism because of the invasion into the etheric realm. I hope for the interaction on this. Thanks.

          • I’ve not been offered the vaccine so far but I expect that this will happen sometime in February. I will not accept the offer, as I would like to see several years’ data about side effects among the early adopters before deciding. I lead a fairly isolated life, wear a mask when out and about and have 3 tests per week, so I don’t think my refusal to have the jab will endanger anyone else.
